President Pezeshkian Meets Ayatollah Khamenei Ahead of UNGA Trip

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei on Monday before departing for New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

During the meeting, President Pezeshkian outlined the planned schedule for his trip, including his upcoming address to the UNGA and a series of diplomatic engagements. Ayatollah Khamenei extended his best wishes for the president’s mission and offered guidance on several key issues.

According to Mehdi Sanaei, the president’s political advisor, Pezeshkian is scheduled to deliver his speech before the General Assembly on Wednesday morning. He will also hold talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, meet with leaders and officials from other countries, and engage with think tanks as well as members of the Iranian community in the United States.

The 80th session of the UNGA officially opened on September 9, with the High-level General Debate running from September 23 to 29. This year’s gathering, held under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights,” marks the UN’s 80th anniversary and serves as a platform for world leaders to set out their priorities before a global audience.
