The launching ceremony of prominent journalist and anchor Asadullah Khan’s new book “In the Shadow of the Taliban” was held at the Pak-China Centre in Islamabad. Renowned politicians, senior journalists, and other important personalities participated in the ceremony.
Spokesperson for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barrister Saif, praised the effort of journalist Asadullah Khan. He said that “Afghanistan in the Shadow of the Taliban” is excellent reporting of the situation in Afghanistan. There is a need for more such literature regarding Afghanistan. Barrister Saif further said that we need to understand Afghanistan. America invested in anti-Pakistan propaganda in Afghanistan for 20 years. Afghanistan has done a lot with respect to Pakistan, but we also contributed fully. Afghanistan’s biggest tragedy is its being a mismanaged state.
Leader of the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aain-e-Pakistan, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, said that Asadullah Khan should continue the work of writing. He said that in the system that the Taliban have implemented in Afghanistan, girls cannot get an education, and employment opportunities are also closed.
Former Federal Minister for Information, Fawad Chaudhry, said that Pakistan’s decision in the eighties to become a part of the war against Russia in Afghanistan was correct. Senior journalist Aamir Matin called the book a good addition to history. Aamir Matin said that Iran also expelled Afghans in a bad way, but we have to think why the sentiments of Afghans are not as anti-Iran as they are against Pakistan.
General (Retired) Zahid Mehmood, in his address, highlighted Pakistan’s efforts regarding Afghanistan.
Asadullah Khan, while thanking all the speakers and participants, said that this book is related to the events of September 2021. This was a time when there was no government in Afghanistan, but every person understood that they were empowered. He said that during his travels in Afghanistan, he was sometimes called an ISI agent and sometimes permits were demanded. The ceremony was also addressed by defense analyst Raja Faisal and young journalist Siddique Jan.
