Spain: Ibiza police suspect document forgery related to the Sahrawi nationality project

A document from the UCRIF, dated October 1, 2026, mentions irregularities in paternal lineage documents originating from the Tindouf camps. The investigations have yet to determine responsibility.
A document from the Spanish police reports suspicions of document forgery targeting individuals from the Tindouf camps. Titled “Suspicions of Document Forgery Involving Individuals from the Tindouf Camps in the Context of the Spanish Project Relating to the Nationality of Sahrawis,” it is dated October 1, 2026. It bears the signature of the “Unit Against Immigration Networks and Document Forgery (UCRIF)” of the National Police in Ibiza.

According to the document, the irregularities concern paternal lineage documents, which were allegedly presented to various Spanish organizations and companies. The verification process requested by the police demonstrates the attention paid to the authenticity of documents originating from the Tindouf camps. The stakes extend beyond social benefits. These documents are used in the naturalization process for Sahrawis and their descendants born in the Sahara under Spanish administration, as stipulated by the new draft law. Therefore, access to Spanish nationality is at stake.

The document also mentions the possible involvement of networks linked to the Polisario Front and its affiliates. These networks could facilitate the production and circulation of forged documents, or even encourage their use to obtain rights and social benefits in Spain. However, the investigations still need to establish responsibility. For the UCRIF (Central Unit for the Repression of Illicit Trafficking in French Countries), this case is a wake-up call. It advocates for ensuring the traceability of documents, strengthening the rigor of controls, and improving cooperation between institutions.
