The High Commission of Sri Lanka in Islamabad, Pakistan, proudly celebrated the 78th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka on 4 February 2026 at the Official Residence of the High Commissioner, led by High Commissioner Fred Senevirathne together with the officers and staff of the Mission. The event was attended by members of the Sri Lankan community holding senior positions in leading companies and international organizations, including UN organizations, Sri Lankan students from universities near to Islamabad, as well as military officers undergoing training under Government-sponsored programmes.

The official proceedings commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by the High Commissioner, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. A two-minute silence was observed in solemn remembrance of the national heroes who made the supreme sacrifice for the freedom, sovereignty, and unity of the nation.
