Monitoring: Important Statement from the Russian Foreign Minister Regarding Terrorism in Afghanistan

The growing terrorism from Afghanistan has become a global concern. Recently, Russia declared 1S1S and Al-Qaeda as significant threats to the world. The Russian Foreign Minister warned against terrorism from Afghanistan during the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) meeting. On June 21, a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, attended by the foreign ministers of Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. Militant organizations in Afghanistan, including 1S1S, Al-Qaeda, and their affiliates, are active in the region, stated the Russian Foreign Minister. Terrorist organizations emerging from Afghanistan, such as 1S1S and Al-Qaeda, pose a serious threat to regional peace, according to the Russian Foreign Minister. The Russian Foreign Minister emphasized the need for negotiations with the Taliban on a solid basis regarding the war against terrorism. “We value supporting the fight against terrorism,” said the Russian Foreign Minister.  The Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Amangali Tasmagambitov, also presented a report on the regional security situation and the impact of Afghan terrorism on the security of CSTO member states at the meeting of foreign ministers. Georgy Grigorevich, a researcher at an institute affiliated with the Russian Foreign Ministry, warned in an article about the relationship between the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. The question arises whether the Taliban will revise their policies under international pressure or continue to jeopardize regional peace.
