Amman, Clear Skies Magazine: Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ayman Safadi, held a series of high-level telephone conversations with his counterparts from Bahrain, Kuwait and Mexico, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, addressing regional developments and promoting efforts to restore peace and stability.
During a phone call on Tuesday evening, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and Safadi reaffirmed the strong fraternal ties between Jordan and Bahrain and expressed their shared commitment to further enhancing cooperation in the interests of both countries and their peoples.
The two ministers reviewed the latest regional developments and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring calm and reinforcing regional security and stability. They stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and called for a comprehensive political solution that addresses the root causes of the crisis. They also reaffirmed the solidarity of Jordan and Bahrain in confronting Iranian attacks targeting their territories and other member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
In a separate telephone conversation on Wednesday, Safadi and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah reiterated their commitment to continued coordination and consultation to strengthen regional cooperation in support of peace and stability.
The two ministers emphasized the need to preserve the ceasefire between the United States and Iran and pursue a comprehensive resolution that addresses all sources of regional tension, guarantees freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and ensures lasting security. They also condemned Iranian attacks targeting Jordan, Kuwait and other GCC member states.
Safadi and Sheikh Jarrah also discussed the escalating situation in the occupied West Bank, expressing concern over what they described as illegal Israeli measures aimed at consolidating the occupation and altering the historic and legal status quo at Al Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif. Both ministers condemned the actions and called for a unified and effective regional and international response.
Safadi also held talks with Mexico’s Foreign Minister Roberto Velasco, during which the two sides discussed ways to strengthen the longstanding friendship between Jordan and Mexico and expand cooperation across areas of mutual interest.
The ministers agreed to reactivate regular political consultations between their foreign ministries under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2015. They decided to hold the first round of consultations before the end of the year and to meet on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in September to advance bilateral engagement.
Their discussions also covered regional developments and efforts to reduce tensions and restore stability. Safadi briefed his Mexican counterpart on the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories, particularly in the West Bank, citing ongoing Israeli measures and violations affecting Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.
Safadi congratulated Velasco on his appointment as Mexico’s foreign minister and expressed Jordan’s commitment to working closely with him to further strengthen bilateral relations and maintain coordination on issues of shared interest.
