President Prabowo Subianto has highlighted significant progress made by Indonesia toward regaining food self-sufficiency under his administration, citing improved access to fertilizers for farmers and record-high national rice reserves.

Speaking on Sunday during the centenary celebration of Nahdlatul Ulama in Malang, East Java, the president said ensuring fertilizer accessibility remains central to the government’s national food security strategy.

“I have proved my resolve: shortly after I took office, the government ensured that fertilizer reached all farmers in sufficient quantities and at lower prices,” Prabowo said in a speech broadcast by the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta.

The president also pointed to what he described as a historic achievement in the food sector, noting that Indonesia’s national rice reserves are currently at the highest level since the country’s founding. He said large quantities of rice are now being stored in warehouses across the country, reflecting improved management of food affairs.

Prabowo stated that Indonesia achieved rice self-sufficiency as of December 31, 2025, and expressed optimism that similar progress would soon be made in corn production. “God willing, this nation will achieve total food self-sufficiency within the next three years,” he said.

In addition, the president pledged to take further steps to make food commodities more affordable for the public by strengthening domestic production and improving distribution efficiency.

Prabowo also highlighted the government’s Free Nutritious Meals program as a flagship initiative, saying it has already benefited more than 60 million people nationwide since its launch on January 6 last year. He added that the government aims to expand the program to reach 82.3 million children, mothers, and elderly citizens in need by the end of 2026.

The remarks underscore the administration’s focus on food security as a cornerstone of national development and social welfare.
