World Health Organization officials admit they are preparing for “worst-case scenario” nuclear threat if US-Israel war with Iran escalates.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is sounding the alarm on the nuclear risks amid the escalating US-Israel war with Iran, officials are actively preparing for a “worst-case scenario” nuclear incident or catastrophe if things spiral further.
This comes straight from Hanan Balkhy, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, in a fresh Politico interview that’s blowing up today (March 19, 2026).
“The worst-case scenario is a nuclear incident, and that’s something that worries us the most.”
“As much as we prepare, there’s nothing that can prevent the harm that will come … the region’s way, and globally if this eventually happens, and the consequences are going to last for decades.”
She’s emphasizing that WHO staff are “vigilant” and training/refreshing protocols for nuclear threats in the “broader sense”, this includes potential attacks on nuclear facilities like the ongoing strikes on Iranian sites or even the use of nuclear weapons.
No matter the precautions, the fallout – radiation, long-term health effects like cancer spikes, mental health crises, would be catastrophic and enduring.
