

The Ambassador of Portugal to Pakistan, Paulo Domingues, met with Babar Saleem Swati, Speaker of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), in Islamabad to discuss expanding bilateral relations at the sub-national level. The high-level exchange focused on leveraging parliamentary diplomacy to build direct institutional, economic, academic, and cultural partnerships between Portugal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During the meeting, Ambassador Domingues emphasized that fostering long-term ties between Portugal and Pakistan requires active engagement with individual provinces and key regional centers like Peshawar. Highlighting Portugal’s technical expertise, the ambassador identified several prospective areas for provincial collaboration, including renewable energy, water management, agribusiness, digital technologies, sustainable tourism, and natural resource management.
Both representatives expressed a shared commitment to translating diplomatic dialogue into practical joint ventures. Moving forward, the Portuguese Embassy intends to facilitate direct links between Portuguese universities, industry stakeholders, and commercial entities with their regional counterparts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to advance regional economic development and cultural exchange.
