Islamabad, Clear Skies Magazine: Italy’s newly appointed Ambassador to Pakistan, His Excellency Ugo Ciarlatani, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic cooperation, and enhancing cultural and educational exchanges between Italy and Pakistan as he formally assumed his diplomatic duties.
In a message issued on July 1, His Excellency Ugo Ciarlatani described Pakistan as a country of great importance for Italy and the wider South Asian region, emphasizing the strong, multifaceted, and promising relationship shared by the two nations.
He noted that Pakistan remains an important political, economic, and cultural partner for Italy, with bilateral ties underpinned by a well-established institutional dialogue, growing economic cooperation, expanding academic and cultural exchanges, and the presence of a large and dynamic Pakistani community in Italy that contributes significantly to the country’s social and economic development.
The ambassador said his mission would focus on further strengthening the partnership by promoting all components of the Italian system in Pakistan. He added that the Embassy would work closely with the Consulate General in Karachi, the Italian Trade Agency (ICE), the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, and Italian and Pakistani institutions, businesses, universities, research centres, and cultural organizations.
Highlighting economic diplomacy as a key priority, His Excellency Ugo Ciarlatani said Italy aims to expand its commercial presence in Pakistan, describing the country as a young and dynamic market with significant opportunities in energy, infrastructure, agribusiness, mechanical engineering, textiles, technology, vocational training, and sustainability.
He also underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy, saying that Italy’s language, art, heritage, archaeology, design, fashion, cinema, music, science, and education serve as vital tools for promoting dialogue and mutual understanding between the two countries.
The ambassador further pledged to encourage greater academic and professional mobility, strengthen scientific and technological cooperation, and improve consular services for both Italian citizens and Pakistani applicants.
Expressing confidence in the future of bilateral relations, His Excellency Ugo Ciarlatani said he looked forward to working with Pakistani partners to deepen the longstanding friendship between the two countries and create new opportunities for cooperation that would benefit both peoples.
